If I were a Rock…

Posted by on Jul 5, 2010 in Amazing Grace | 0 comments

I’m so thankful for a brain and the ability to think and feel and learn and love.

but sometimes (not often so don’t be alarmed or call my mother concerned) I wish I were a rock.

No, I’m not turning into a naturalist; believing I am one with the earth and that I will eventually cease to exist is quite possibly the most uneducated/sad/depressing idea- especially when I see and know the hope in Jesus Christ.

I digress. Back to wanting to be a rock.

The physical creation does not have to be reminded to worship.  They don’t need to schedule a quiet time, write verses on their hands, move their watch to remind them to pray or any of the other contrived ways I try to put the Lord first.

They simply worship.  They exist for the glory of God.

They don’t war against the flesh to maintain pure motives or guard their minds against the schemes of the devil. They don’t struggle with pride or being a people-pleaser.

They simply worship!

I have the ability to fall into the traps of the devil despite knowing and loving my Savior.  I desire to have the steadiness to glorify the worthy King day in and day out, moment by moment, breath by breath… like a rock (only I guess the rock doesn’t breathe).

BUT.
man am I glad to be on the other side and partake in seeing all of creation worship this King.

[and spend time in community, dominate in spoons, eat way too many festive desserts, and explore Colorado like the pioneers. ps. new respect for those brave souls]
For the Fourth of July 17 friends and I spent the day hiking through Estes Park.  It made me love America– love the fact that there are so many treasures tucked deep into the mountains that I don’t get to see from atop my plateau in Missouri.

More so, Estes Park made me adore my Father more.  Oh, with strength and majesty He creates!
