This afternoon I went to the Baylor baseball game.
We played Nebraska, and I watched one of their players miss a fly ball. It landed on his shoe, and I felt sorry for him.
I’ve decided I cannot be competitive because I want to protect both teams, but I also realize that a tie in every game defeats the point of the game. Oh, life’s dilemmas.
Thus, I watch the game, but not really watch the game. I read the billboards, marvel at river, and watch little BU toddlers run around and WIN a free hamburger (we picked the best row to sit in!).
All in all, it was a wonderful day.
I even have a sun burn to remember it tomorrow.

Since Easter I’ve been a bit book-crazed. Maybe it’s the Kindle, or maybe (which I’m sure is more the case)– reading is a productive way to procrastinate.
Two books I highly recommend.
First: Dug Down Deep by Joshua Harris (no, he’s not going to make me kiss dating goodbye…) ![]()
The book explores how he came to understand and ground his faith. We’re to build our houses on a solid foundation, but what does that mean? A study of doctrine and orthodoxy shouldn’t scare us away, but rather, they should lead us to understand Truth. I have an energized excitement about my religion classes now. Here’s my favorite quote from what I read this morning:
if you want to feel deeply, you have to think deeply. Too often we separate the two… True emotion– emotion that is reliable and doesn’t lead us stray– is always response to reality, to truth… When we engage our minds with the doctrine of his person and his work, our emotions are given something to stand on, a reason to worship and revel in the very appropriate feelings of awe and gratefulness and adoration.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve also been reading Beth Moore’s So Long Insecurity. It’s a must read. Regardless of whether or not you’d peg yourself as insecure, the book reinforces in a practical way what it means to walk in light of God’s freedom and grace. I’ve learned lots and found areas in my life that stem from insecurity that a few weeks ago I would have passed off as “humility.” oh Caroline.
I also read David Sedaris’ Christmas on Ice, but… yeah, it’s not exactly the most edifying book, though it’s a good laugh.
Read on, my friends.
CommentWays to generate humility part three:
Think about grace for one solid minute…
OR…
Walk out of an interview and fall down half a flight of stairs.
Make sure you bounce like basketball down the stairs.
Scratch your left shin and cut your right knee.
Then, laugh uncontrollably, talk a bit to yourself, and then realize what you doing…
grab your shoes and run to your car.
This is a sure recipe for a humility (as if the last time I wore the shoes didn’t suffice– the same scenario occurred. Darn cute shoes).

a jumpstart to the perfect weekend:
-a walk in the park that may or may not have required missing a class
and then:
-a dinner of cheeses and crackers. despite the fact that all but one of the cheeses tasted like the mold that it is, I felt sophisticated.
-Sonic 3 times.
-Smores, Stickiness, and Silliness (courtesy of Clayton and Cole)
-my first Baylor tennis match. Who knew we had a top ranked team?
-Canoeing in the marina. The Brazos River sure is a beauty. wink.
-a spontaneous Sunday afternoon trip to the zoo. my new favorite animals are the river otters and the orangutans (truth be told: I just googled how to spell said monkey)
I often catch myself saying I’ve been blessed.
I AM blessed might be more appropriate.
A great weekend, yes.
but more so, a great weekstart to a busy busy week.
I could memorize Scripture as easily as I learn country songs.
If only…
God’s word would run continually through my head like “a little bit of chicken fried” and “outside my window I see a flag that’s waving- la la lalala laa.”
I’m trying to memorize Ephesians 3:14-20
Do ask me how it’s going, and enjoy this passage. I love it. What if we all prayed it?
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every familyin heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
